Collaborative software development, model driven development, agile development – all key elements or methodologies to developing software. Many development teams are developing software with different renditions of what and how these development methodologies can work. For many of us “collaborative software development” starts with a white board session, these software design sessions can be very effective if the team is co-located though it still has its hang-ups: Do we take a picture of the design on the white board, to be able to redraw it the next go around and send it to distributed team members? Teams enjoy the insight of model driven development though there is a perception that Unified Modeling Language (UML) is hard to learn and not all stakeholders can or will learn it. With agile development teams, they prefer to be informal but they too struggle on how do they keep their designs in sync and keep the team connected? Reality demonstrates that development teams are often distributed, at different levels of design knowledge and frankly just getting on a WebEx to share a design can be time consuming, frustrating and requires a sense of humor. What is really needed is a design solution that is as simple as a whiteboard though enabled for real-time, multi-user, cross-site collaboration – we have that solution and it’s called Design Room Live!, we invite you to register for our new beta NOW! Design Room Live! is a web-based modeling tool that provides simplified UML (sUML) with minimal User Interface and maximum drawing surfaces. No saving, everything is live and soon it’ll have the touch and tablet friendly interface it really can be Design Collaboration on the go! We encourage you to sign up for the beta , explore the Design Room Live! content out on the DevOps Community ; review the User Guide, blogs and videos to familiarize yourself with this new technology. The Design Room Live! beta will be continuously delivered every 3rd week and beta customers can influence the tool’s evolution and see what other users are doing by participating on the DevOps Community forum. ![]() Kimi Cousins Offering Manager for RAD, RSAD & RSARTE Kimi Cousins is at HCL in Cary, NC, where she is the Product Manager for RAD, RSAx and Rose.
