It starts out as an idea, jot down a couple of ideas with a buddy over a drink, maybe grab a pen and a napkin, grab another napkin because we really have something here, collaborate more…. I know everyone reading this really want to finish the story with “you should just use Rational Software Architect Designer,” absolutely! Sketching out an idea has evolved from that napkin idea, well at least it has evolved once you reach for another napkin and start collaborating with your peers.
You can now bring all those innovative ideas into Rational Software Architect Designer (RSAD), elaborate a bit on your sketch within the RSAD palette with your peers. The next level will have you using Unified Modeling Language (UML) for designing your enterprise Java® applications and web services, far from that napkin you started with and with the collaboration from your whole team. This Model Driven Development (MDD) approach can help teams build out comprehensive designs with the modeling and development tools needed to deliver an end-to-end solution. RSAD delivers all this and more on an Eclipse open-source software framework that is extensible with a variety of Eclipse plugins for your development needs.
We have a young worldwide development team that is currently growing, see careers at HCL. The focus of this Rational Software Architect Designer (RSAD) 9.6.1 mod release was all about currency; currency of your operating systems, your databases and of course currency of your middleware.
This is especially important as you develop and test your application using Rational Application Developer (RAD) which is part of RSAD, read the RAD 9.6.1 blog. We continue to enhance our RSAD model-to-code and code-to-model transformation with the delivery of additional code generation support in the recent RSAD 9.6 delivered Swagger models. Swagger models can also now be used to generate Server-side code based upon JAX-RS to quickly get you started with your implementation using Model-driven development. The UML-to-Java transformation's JAX-RS extension generates appropriate Java types from Swagger types during the code-generation.
The RSAD Knowledge Center is a great resource to read specific highlights from each of our RSAD releases, along with the product page which has 30-day no-charge trial download.
